Mabel Alsina-Harris, PhD
Mabel is a postdoctoral research associate at the Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources and the project manager of the Arizona Board of Regent Project: Abandoned Mine Lands—A Cooperative Approach to Assessment. She holds a Ph.D. in Natural Resources with an emphasis in Watershed Management and Ecohydrology from the University of Arizona and a master’s degree in Forest Sciences from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany. Mabel’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaiso, Chile.
Her Ph.D. minor was focused on spatial analysis and remote sensing, and with her strong background in environmental sciences, Mabel has cultivated a strong interdisciplinary approach to her work. Utilizing geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing techniques, including advanced spectrometry, Mabel actively integrates a diverse number of factors by performing cartographic modeling to analyze Earth’s natural and mineral resources.
