Eric Lutz

Eric A. Lutz, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Community, Environment and Policy Division at The University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health and holds an adjunct appointment in the Department of Mining and Geological Engineering. He received his MS and PhD degrees in Environmental Health Sciences from The Ohio State University in 2009 and 2010, respectively. He specializes in global zoonotic and sapronotic infectious diseases and applies over 15 years of professional occupational health and industrial hygiene experience to support global and local mining operators through the University Mining Health and Safety Program and Institute for Mineral Resources. 

Dr. Lutz teaches public health and mining engineering classes in the areas of environmental and occupational health, and also infectious diseases. His research includes reduction of mining-related injuries and exposures, human/animal antimicrobial resistance, environmental surveillance of parasites (Schistosoma); environmental survivability and transmission of pathogens; and emergency/public health preparedness. Dr. Lutz is a co-investigator on the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) funded University of Arizona Training Program Grant to train students in industrial hygiene and the NIOSH Western Regional Mining Health and Safety Training Grant to improve mining health and safety training, as well as PI and Co-PI for research and training projects involving mining, firefighting and infectious diseases.
